We all like to have our occasion laziness spell. Is it bad? I think depends. If you have been working really hard all week and you need a day off then yes its okay to be lazy. If you being playing video games all week and go to bed at midnight and wake up at noon. I think that a bad lazy. What happens when we come across a situation where we are forced to choose to say or do something right? Do we choose the laziness route or do we take the path and get up.
I was in the coffee shop early today just hanging with my good friend/co-worker and a student sat in between where the cash registers were. I thought in my head I should tell her to get down because it’s not a good idea for them to sit up there. Plus it doesn’t look very professional for business. However being lazy and tired I decided I wasn’t going to say anything. Well a couple minutes later our boss comes in and looks at the student sitting on the counter and says you need to get down from there. A few moments later the boss comes in, after the students had scurried away, the boss gives me and my friend a lecture how this a professional business and we need to not have these things. It was one of those speeches you hear from your parents when there disappointed in you.
My initial reactions at first was if we were a professional business then there a lot for us to do because we are sub-par on a lot of levels, I was also thinking why in the world are you accusing me I am not even on the clock right now. I got super defensive, then I realized wait…this is not what Christ would want. My boss has every right to lecture us, because I did get lazy and decided not to do the right thing. Now doing the right thing and thinking the right thing are two different thing is not good enough.
I think sometimes we get lazy at the wrong times in life, in fact I say being lazy and sloth is a sin in some degrees. The Lord wants us to rest; now resting may look like taking a nap, watching a movie with a friend, or going to the coffee shop to people watch. However we need to strive for righteous at all times, not for us to look perfect in the boss eyes, but because we love our Lord. In the book of John, Christ makes statement he says, if you love me, you will obey me. If we are truly about being followers of Christ we are going to take this statement to heart and do what He asks of us. I encourage you; my friends do not ride the lazy river when it comes to doing what is right.
