Time: Friend or Foe?

I remember as a young child that I always knew what time it was. I never needed a watch, there was just something in me that allowed to me have a sense of time, whether it be the actual time or if there was a certain amount of time passed. Even to this day I pretty accurate at the time. I would drive from Portland, OR to Pleasanton, CA I knew it was going to be a long trip. When I would drive would try to cover up the car’s clock and try not to think about how many songs I had listened to or the look at the rode markers. Because I always knew the amount of time I had spent in the car.  I would do my very best try to ignore it so that I could get home or back to school without draining myself on the drive. It was difficult sometimes to hide the amount time just because I knew the area all so well. Like going up to Portland, OR I knew once I hit Medford, OR I had about four and half hours left.  As I continue to drive their was this town called Jefferson, OR I have some friends from that area and knew it was about an hour out of Portland. Coming home I knew after I past Redding I it was going to be long boring drive because there is nothing to look at. Eventually I would see exit 23 to Glisan St to get to school and eventually I would see Santa Rita Exit and I knew I had made it home. A sense of relief would always hit my body after I reach the home area.

Now in life we see time differently sometimes, we see it in a light of waiting or we see time as a enemy. We never say that was just the right amount of time. After you get done with a vacation a persons usually thinks to themselves, I could had a few extra days or when the weekends hit you say man that went by so fast. We never associate perfection and time. It’s always too soon or too late. It’s never perfect. However in all reality time is perfect we just don’t see it.

There was a young women had been sick her whole life. She couldn’t do much and no one really wanted to associate with her. She would do her best and go to synagogue as much as she could and was hoping for a healing of her body but time and time again, nothing happen. One day she heard that this teacher was coming to town, she heard that he could heal anyone. She even heard that this man was the Messiah. So she got ready that day. She thought to herself, if I only get close enough to touch his clock I will be healed. Later that day he had arrived and she did her best to bob and weave through the crowd. This teacher had a whole entourage of people with him, it seem as though he was a rock star.  However eventually she got close of enough and with her right had she touch him. Then he turned around and told, “Daughter you have been made well because of your faith”

Now there is more to this story than just her touch him, the story is about faith. It’s about timing she had to wait 12 years before she was healed. There countless stories where God’s timing doesn’t come until it is needed. We sometimes get wrapped up in the idea we deserve it this time. We gain a sense of entitlement to things. In truth and all reality we don’t deserve anything but death.

You hear this cliché all the time; God speaks about having perfect time in our lives. Every time I hear I cringe a little but know that this is a true fact. We must take faith in the fact God does have time for us. Solomon talks about there being a time for everything. We must also see it this way. It tough to wait especially if your not where you thought you would be in your life. For me I had no idea that I would be a barista at a church and working with College and High School students. It hasn’t been the easiest time in my life but it’s been a good time. I am blessed to have such good family and friends to make this time a little bit easier. Things will happen in time, I just need to learn to wait.
